You can begin training the first day you get your pup. Puppys learn very quickly but the sessions must be short: start with 10 to 15 minutes, twice a day. Long sessions are likely to make your dog lose interest or tire it.

Training must take place when the dog is calm and that there is not too much noise in the house. When the pup answers the commands in a suitable way in a given situation, continue training in a more stimulating and complexe situation, in a progressive way. Indeed the pup will have to be trained in each enviroment where you require him to response to a command.

You will find quicker results if the pup is initially trained by only one person. Once that the pup will have assimilated the matter, the other members of the family will also be able to take part in the raising. Use simple words for each command in order to have your dog come, sit or lay down. Avoid associating the name of your pup with the commands given: too many words confuse the animal and slow down the process of training.

Immediately reward a suitable behavior (meaning in the second which follows). Each time the animal answers a command, it should be rewarded: food, caresses and encouragements are extremely appreciated. You will discover quickly which rewards your pup prefers. Once the response to the command is assimilated, do not reward your pup each time, but rather by intermittencies.

 |
If the pup fails an exercise during training, do not reward it, stop and start again on a easier level. An adequate and constant response to the command always depends on the quality of your training. If the pup reacts only when he wants or when the surrounding medium is more stimulative, it is necessary to start again the training from the beginning and to proceed in a more intensive way.

It is necessary to be patient and never dispute your pup. To correct a pup, simply avoid rewarding it: to strike, to raise the voice or reprimand it is useless. That causes more damage and can affect the privileged bond which was woven between the pup and its owner. If a pup acts in an inadequate way, it is necessary to distract it or reward it to have answered the command which invites it to modify its unacceptable behavior. A well drawn up pup is a happier pup and an excellent companion.
